Wappalyzer is young and promising start-up that tracks the usage and distribution of software on the web. The project was initiated in 2008 by Elbert Filius, a Dutch expat in Australia who built a Firefox add-on that uncovers technologies used on websites such as CMS, e-commerce systems, message boards and several more. The add-on has been installed by tens of thousands of users and this number is steadily growing. It has proven to be an invaluable tool for web developers.
A new website is being launched with the help and funding of AOE media, the leading Open Source Web development company in Germany who once again underlines its strong position with the Open Source movement. The website offers and publicly available statistics that reveal the growth of web based software over time and their popularity compared to others. This data has not been available before and is of value for businesses and people with an interest in web applications.
The name Wappalyzer stands for "web application analyzer".

Wappalyzer, ein vielversprechendes Firefox-Add-On, welches von Elbert Filius, einem niederländisch-stämmigen Australierer entwickelt wurde, wird ab sofort unter der Regie von AOE media, einem der führenden Open Source Web Dienstleister in Deutschland weiterentwickelt.
Der Name steht für Web Application Analyzer. Wie viele andere Add-Ons nistet sich auch Wappalyzer in die Statusleiste des Browsers ein.Dabei berücksichtigt die Identifizierungs-Software verschiedene Content Management Systeme, JavaScript-Frameworks und Benutzertracking-Software.
